This or Better
by Linda Andrews
Growing up, my dad often told me, “Everybody loves me.” He had learned it from his mom, who still says it to this day. That simple belief gave me confidence and resilience.
Of course, as an adult, I realized that not everyone will love me. But the belief itself still serves me. It taught me the power of choosing what you believe and how those beliefs shape your experience of life.
The truth is, you can adopt new beliefs that serve you just as well. Here are three that I recommend trying on this week.
1. Something good will happen today
Even writing this puts a spark in my eye. It’s the same excitement you might feel scratching a lottery ticket or waiting for a surprise. What good will happen today? Try asking yourself that and notice how it shifts your outlook.
2. What is the opportunity in this?
Even the most difficult moments often carry opportunities we cannot yet see. For me, years of anxiety, overworking, and burnout became the foundation for growth, healthier choices, and a decade of new friendships and learning.
When you zoom out, painful experiences can reveal opportunities that reshape your path for the better.
3. This or better
When disappointments come, instead of getting stuck in “why me,” you can say, “This or better.”
Recently, I was not selected for a pitch competition. My fiancé was disappointed for me, but I knew: this or better. That opening in my schedule created the exact space I needed, and within weeks I found myself in New York under circumstances that were far more aligned.
The Belief Shift
Life is happening for you. The question is: will you choose to believe that?
Choose one belief this week and live into it. See how it changes the way you show up and the opportunities that come your way.
Clarity and freedom start with the beliefs you hold.
